Campers spend the week exploring the best climbing locations the Eastside has to offer! We will visit areas between Bishop and Mammoth Lakes, sport climbing, crack climbing, and bouldering. They will have opportunities to swim in the beautiful lakes, enjoy time at the hot and cold springs, and participate in an outdoor yoga class.
Camping out under the stars at French Camp in Rock Creek allows access to the creek, flushing toilets, and running water and allows us to visit a new climbing destination daily. The evenings will be spent sharing delicious meals, climbing stories, and enjoying s’mores around the fire.
This overnight camp is suitable for co-ed teens age 12-17* who are avid indoor gym climbers and seek opportunities to advance their outdoor climbing skills. *(Mature 11 year old kids who turn 12 in the same calendar year are welcome to apply.)
Our typical camper is an avid indoor climber who participates on their local climbing team at the recreation or competitive level. They are psyched on climbing and want to immerse themselves in a week (or two) of outdoor climbing at the world-renowned Eastern Sierra locations.
We’ll lay a solid foundation of climbing skills with an emphasis on safety and best practices. Campers will learn to advance their climbing technique, knowledge of gear and equipment, the importance of ethics, teamwork, problem-solving, and trust.
Our campers learn the following:
-outdoor lead climbing
-anchor setup and cleaning
-introduction to trad gear placement
-crack climbing technique
-stick clipping
-projecting skills
-resting strategy and conserving energy
-rappelling best practices
Return and experienced campers ages 16-17 are encouraged to participate in a Junior Counselor position. They will have the added responsibility of mentoring the younger campers and helping with facilitating the group experience throughout the week. Please inquire if you are interested in this option.
